Listen to an audio Evening Reflection from the Brothers of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, recorded in their Monastery Chapel:

O: O God, make speed to save us.
P: O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Phos Hilaron:

O gracious light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of Life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

As the sun sets, the invitation is to turn again to the Source of All Things with oblation. Give this day back to God. Give back the hopes, the plans, the turmoil, and the success.

As you look back on this day in God’s presence, take a moment to ask yourself:
• Where did I notice God’s grace at work today? (Give thanks to God.)
• How did I resist or fail to cooperate with God’s grace today? (Confess this to God.)
• And finally, what do I need from God in the day to come? (Ask God for help.)

That this evening may be holy, good, and peaceful,
P: We entreat you, O Lord.

That your holy angels may lead us in paths of peace and goodwill,
P: We entreat you, O Lord.

That we may be pardoned and forgiven for our sins and offenses,
P: We entreat you, O Lord.

That there may be peace to your Church and to the whole world,
P: We entreat you, O Lord.

That we may depart this life in your faith and fear, and not be condemned before the great judgment seat of Christ,
P: We entreat you, O Lord.

That we may be bound together by your Holy Spirit in the communion of all your saints, entrusting one another and all our life to Christ,
P: We entreat you, O Lord.

Almighty and ever-living God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O: Let us bless the Lord.
P: Thanks be to God.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
